Funding Opportunities

Graduate Summer Translation Award:
The project may involve work on a translation project or on an aspect of translation theory or criticism, or a combination. Possibilities include preparation or completion of a translation of one or more short stories or a series of poems; work on an article or dissertation chapter focused on a problem in translation theory; a comparison of multiple translations or approaches to the translation of a given literary, philosophical, or other work displaying complex issues embedded in language; or research-related travel for work on an appropriate project. The successful applicants will present their projects to the Oregon Center for Translation Studies at the end of the grant period, preferably in Fall 2020.

 

Undergraduate Summer Research Award:
The project may involve the completion of a translation of one or more short stories, a section of a novel, a dramatic work, or a series of poems. The successful applicants will present their projects to the Oregon Center for Translation Studies during Spring term 2019, explaining what the challenges are, what draws them to their particular projects, and how they plan to work on them. Each grantee will submit a written report on the result of the project in October 2020. Graduating seniors are eligible to apply

 

Faculty Exchange with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice  (EU Erasmus + mobility).
Two-week exchange to take place Feb.-May, 2020.
Eligible faculty: UO TTF and NTTF
Application Deadline: September 20, 2019

Submit a one-page (maximum) expression of interest that includes proposed seminar topic(s),  relevant experience, proposed dates, and relevance of the mobility to your current research, teaching, or service activities. Include a statement from your department head or dean indicating that they are aware of your application and would approve your absence from campus on the dates proposed.

The successful applicant will be able to teach in English on some aspect of Translation Studies (theory and/or practice), as guest instructor in semester-long course. In addition to formal lecturing, activities during the two-week exchange might include classroom workshops and informal meetings with faculty, students, or staff. Any languages are eligible; knowledge of Italian not required. Work requirement is 8 hours/week, details to be negotiated between faculty member and host.

The two-week exchange must take place between February and May, 2020. The mobility paid for by the European Commission covers a travel allowance for airfare and a daily stipend.

Selection will be made by the OCTS Advisory Board; active board members who might choose to apply will be recused. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of:

  • proposed contribution to Ca’ Foscari University’s translation studies program
  • availability during the required dates
  • relevant prior experience (teaching and/or translation)
